The Estimated (est.) overspend shows the variance in utility performance expressed in equivalent cost terms.
How is the financial value calculated?
This is achieved by multiplying the total variance in kWh (for energy, or cubic metres for water) value from all meters by utility type by a standard, average cost rate.
The estimated overspend is an indicative average cost. It is not based on the actual cost rate for the meter due to the changing and individual rates paid for utilities on different tariffs and at varying times of day, which are not stored in SIERA.
It is important therefore that overspend values displayed can only be used as an indicative guide and not as an accurate representation of actual spend.
Example
If an electricity meter had a consumption variance of 1,000 kWh with an average cost rate of £0.12 per kWh:
1,000 kWh x £0.12/kWh = £120
Total estimated cost of variance = £120.
